How to stop liking/craving sweets (all types of confectionary) ?
i don’t mind going cold turkey as long as the cravings begin to subside. Any suggestions?
I don’t want to wait until i’m 30, when my sweet tooth switches off.
i want to be healthier….
damn you KIT KAT and your alluring biscuit centre…..
(homer moment …graaaaaaaaaah)
Cold turkey doesn’t really work for sugar – if you dont replace it with something, you will still crave it. In reality, the only way to beat those cravings is to literally retrain your taste buds. It takes some psychological adjustment, but it can be done.
First, just work on improving your diet; eat healthful, fiber-rich meals to fill you up, and make sure you’re eating your leafy green veggies. Cut back on the soda, and try replacing it with natural sugars, like a bit of fruit juice mixed with seltzer water. Try to switch to "natural" versions of your favorite treats – eg, most health food stores (Whole Foods, trader joes, etc) stock house versions of oreos, cheetoes, etc. These are still junk food, but they contain real actual sugar rather than the high fructose corn syrup you’ve become accustomed to (this stuff is many times sweeter than real sugar). They will probably seem less flavorful than the originals at first, but trust me, if you continue to eat this way, it will start to seem "normal."
If you continue to consciously improve your diet, and do your best to make healthier choices, these sugar cravings will subside significantly. I’ve done it myself over the past 4 years – I used to be a McDonalds and candy bar junkie – but now I really have no desire to eat these things because when I DO eat them, I can now taste how overly sweet/fattening they are and it isn’t appealing. A little tab of dark chocolate and some fruit is enough to stop my wildest sugar cravings now.
Its amazing how most people get so used to eating tons of sugar and processed foods all the time, that we don’t even taste how much sugar is actually in them!
Why is it so difficult to find BOTH low-fat *and* no added sugar/low sugar confectionary?
I’m not necessarily trying to lose weight, but looking after my health and limit my sugar/saturated fat intake. Of course I love chocolate and ice cream, but whenever I want to buy a healthy choice, it is either low sugar/no added sugar OR low fat. I want to get both, but it’s almost impossible to find that, especially for those sort of foods. Why is this???
Instead of trying to find fake versions of treats, just eat smaller portions, or make something yourself.
You will find that if you just forget about looking for diet "duplicates" of sweet and fatty confections and eat things like high quality dark chocolate, Medjool dates and unsalted almonds when you want a dessert, you will lose your taste for artificially sweetened and dry pretend food from the supermarket "diet food" shelf.

Does anyone know where I can buy American confectionary in the Sydney area?
Like American chocolates and stuff like that.
You could order from the shop in Melbourne and they’d parcel post it for a small fee.

Other than that, I’m not sure about in Sydney but I did buy Big Red gum from Coles in Westfield Bondi Junction once…

Where can i buy food or confectionary/chocolates for diabetics?
other than local health shops that only sell a small limited selection. Are there any shops that are for diabetics at all?
Boots sell a limited amount but Google it and you might find that there’s a mail order company who will supply a much bigger range at a cheaper rate.
