I want to find a candy recipe that is smiliar to See’s candy butterscotch squares?

Posted by admin on July 13th, 2010 and filed under candy | 2 Comments »

I love See’s candy butterscotch squares and I would like to make them at home instead of the 20 minutes drive to the mall. Anyone know of a recipie with a similar consistency. A slight sugar granual texture, but soft and melts in your mouth, a brown sugar maple flavor.

The butterscotch squares have a brown sugar base. Take a look at a recipe for penuche. Its very similar to what you are looking for. Here’s one recipe:

1 cup brown sugar
2 cups granulated sugar
12 oz. can evaporated milk
1/8 tsp baking soda
1 T vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (opt)

Bring the sugars, milk and baking soda to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly because it will scorch easily. Using a candy thermometer, heat it to a "soft ball" stage and remove from heat. Set pan on wire rack and don’t disturb until temperature drops to 110 degrees. Then beat in vanilla and nuts. Continue beating for 5 minutes to stiffen up the mixture and pour into an 8×8 inch butter pan. Using a buttered spatula, press the mixture down and cool. Cut into squares.

Why does See’s Candy have a different expiration date on the Christmas wrapper?

Posted by admin on July 10th, 2010 and filed under candy | 1 Comment »

Why does See’s Candy have a different expiration date on the bottom of the box and a better expiration date on the Christmas wrapper? This doesn’t seem right. These codes were explained to me as for example 012 means the 12th day of the year (which would mean January) and the 357 day of the year would be mid december. So my box of candy has 292 stamped on the bottom and 012 on the Christmas wrapper. I don’t understand.

I would assume the date on the box is the expiration for the candy itself and the date on the Christmas wrapper is the last date they can sell it as Christmas Season candy.
Some candy boxes are double wrapped and after Christmas season they remove the Christmas wrapper and sell the candy box as a all season regular candy box.

What kind of candy can you give your boyfriend with braces?

Posted by admin on July 4th, 2010 and filed under candy | 2 Comments »

My boyfriend just accomplished something he’s wanted for a long time.
I’m proud of him for the motivation and perseverance he’s had through out this experience.
I bought him a shirt he really wanted and I want to give him some candy or something as a little treat.
He has braces and I would like to know, what kind of candies or things could I give him?

you can give him any kind of candy made, the problem is when you chew the candy it can damage or get caught in the braces.

so you can either stick to things like hard candy that you just suck like lemon drops or he can learn to chew with his tongue and the roof of his mouth.

also don’t chew on ice or anything hard like nuts

how about some hershey’s chocolate kisses

def avoid taffy and caramels

Where can I find the candy that is like a buttermint, but not mint?

Posted by admin on July 1st, 2010 and filed under candy | 1 Comment »

Many years ago, a gal where I worked would make these delicious butter candies. They look just like buttermints, but they weren’t minty. She could only make them at certain times, I think it depended on the weather?? Any ideas? I would gladly settle for a recipe, or the name of this kind of candy so I can try to find it online.
Thanks!

I was able to find these recipes at recipesource.com, the first is a regular recipe and the second is a diabetic recipe. Ihope this helps.
